I've been a writer for more than 30 years, starting out writing record reviews for the Wichita Beacon newspaper. After earning a Bachelor's degree in English from Wichita State University, I entered the field of broadcasting where I reported, wrote and delivered the news for several radio stations. I worked in a small advertising agency, and did freelance public relations for a local theater group, and writing/photography for two newspapers. After writing award-winning commercials for a local radio station, I worked for Brite Voice Systems for more than nine years. Brite essentially invented audiotext, the process of retrieving information like news, weather, sports, entertainment programs and financial information over the telephone. While at Brite I wrote and voiced many of the audiotext programs and specialized in writing horoscopes, soap opera updates, and other entertainment programs. Getting paid to write horoscopes and watch soap operas was probably the highlight of my career. After my tenure with Brite, I worked at Social and Rehabilitation Services as the Public Information Officer, then at a local printing/multimedia company as a proofreader.

I started my own business, Durmaskin Communications, in 2009, focusing on writing, proofreading, website development and content, public relations, social media and business writing.

When I'm not working (which seems like most of the time these days), I read (I belong to two book clubs), spoil my goddaughters, go to the movies and try to figure out the meaning of life.
